What is different and unique about Scully’s Deodormint?

Most deodorants cover up body odor and you end up smelling like artificial fragrances, such as lavender or rose-scent plus BO- yuk! Scully’s special formulation of local pure-grade alcohol and organic mints actually kills the bacteria that causes the BO in the first place, so it’s more effective than most deodorants. With its attractive and travel-friendly bottle, it goes on clean and clear with a fresh scent that leaves a temporary tingle behind. Scully’s replaces the monotony of your usual deodorant application with a fresh dose of delight. And the best part, is that IT WORKS!

Is regular deodorant bad for me?

Most deodorants use harmful fragrances and chemicals. "Fragrance" in particular is considered a "trade secret" and is completely unregulated. We believe that what’s on your body is in your body and suggest using natural, organic, fragrance-free and chemical-free products whenever possible.

Can antiperspirant be natural?

Antiperspirants use aluminum based chemicals which can leave trace amounts in your body, and some studies have linked prolonged aluminum exposure to Alzheimer's disease and breast cancer. Especially for women who often apply antiperspirant after shaving atop small micro-cuts in the underarm area, this can be very concerning. For a job interview or on your wedding day, an exception can make sense, but for everyday use, please sweat responsibly ;).

What is the difference between deodorant and antiperspirant?

Deodorants let your pores sweat as they were meant to. Sweating is actually good for you! It’s your body’s way of cooling off and releasing toxins. Antiperspirants block sweat glands to keep them from working. Did you know that when you block your armpits from perspiring that your body will actually sweat somewhere else (think groin area and feet) to get the release it needs.

I can’t live without antiperspirant. What can I do?

We believe in moderation in all things. If you can’t handle the feeling of wetness under your arms, consider these tips:

  • Work up to it. Go in stages, where you use Scully’s for non-critical parts of your day at first: when you workout, before bed (smell good for your loved one in the morning), or on weekends.
  • Wear an absorbent cotton undershirt that can help collect sweat. We don’t recommend dry-fit / high-tech fabrics and these tend to trap sweat and get smelly over time.

What is Propylene Glycol?

Scully’s does not use Propylene Glycol like many other deodorant. Propylene Glycol is a synthetic chemical that is the main ingredient in antifreeze and commonly used in food and beauty products (!) as a thickening and emulsifying agent. While generally considered safe in small quantities by the FDA, some studies show a linkage to leaky gut syndrome and increased risk of childhood allergies and asthma. More recently in food and natural products, newer methods use plant based products as the base of propylene glocol instead of fossil fuels. We believe that while the naturally derived propylene glycol may be better, the gummy residue it leaves behind feels gross in comparison to the clean feel of Scully’s Deodormint.
